ParaFed Otago's first Volunteer of the Month is awarded to Mia O'Keefe.
Recently, Mia has been helping me in the office and with Boccia. She has been so willing to help and her energy has been refreshing! I really appreciate all the help she has been giving!
A little more from Mia;
How long have you been volunteering for ParaFed Otago?
I have been volunteering for ParaFed for the past few years, helping at sausage sizzles and fundraisers, and more recently helping in the office and on the website and social media.
What sports or activities have you been involved with?
I have been involved in skiing, wheelchair basketball, athletics, wheelchair rugby, the Junior Disability Games and anything else that I have been given the chance to participate in.
What do you love about working with ParaFed Otago and their members?
I love the whole atmosphere of ParaFed Otago, everyone is always so enthusiastic, passionate and supportive and they genuinely seem to love what they do. It is just an amazing environment to be in where nothing is ever too hard and there is always a way to make something work.
What has been your own personal greatest achievement?
My personal greatest achievement would probably have to be the first monoskier to ski Homeward Bound at The Remarkables.
What are your sport and recreation passions?
My main passions are wheelchair rugby and skiing, but I will give anything a go and for me it’s about having fun and making new connections.
Most memorable moment while working for ParaFed Otago?
At the PNZ Open Day when I had to opportunity in introduce several children to wheelchair rugby and basketball and getting to see the smiles and excitement on their faces as they learned to control the chair, dribble and shoot baskets.
